Back to School: Change your look for less

Thursday, 20 September 2012

Everyone would sometimes like to chop and change their looks, but make-over's can be time consuming and expensive.  This is especially true if you are going back to school and would like to impress you friends.  So how can you change your look for less (time and money)?!  Easy with these few quick and easy little tips and tricks.  Just give it a try...

The Color Purple

We all know that mascara is the secret to instantly playing up your eyes, but who says it always has to be black? Try painting your lashes blue to spice things up, or if you’re feeling super-daring, go for purple (looks great on hazel eyes) or even green (for brown or blue eyes)!

Just Peachy

Switching up your lip color is an easy way to transition your summer beauty look into fall. This season, orange is the new pink, so trade in your rosy-hued gloss for a subtle peach or coral shade. Or, if you’re a fan of bold lips, try a bright tangerine lipstick for a pop of standout color.

White Out

White eyeliner is the beauty world’s best-kept secret. Take a break from your signature smoky eye and use white eyeliner on the inner corners of your eyes, and along the water line, to make your eyes look instantly bigger and brighter!

Pass the Highlighter

Waking up for school can be rough. Fake a fresh-faced look even if you’ve been up all night cramming for a test by using a shimmery highlighter on your cheekbones. This is a quick way to get a natural girly glow. Tip: Make sure to smile so you can locate the apples of your cheeks, then apply the shimmer in a downward slant right above them,  to create the illusion of higher cheekbones.

All Day Color

Tired of reapplying your lip-gloss after every class? Try out a fun lip stain in a berry or red shade and you’ll be well on your way to the perfect, lasting pout! Stains can last up to 8 hours, while glosses can fade after eating and drinking. To apply it smoothly, line and fill in your lips with a lip liner in a similar color, then apply stain on top with a lip brush.

Best in Brows

When making up your eyes, look beyond just your lids and lashes—eyebrows are actually the feature that frames your whole face, and a little grooming can go an extra-long way! If your brows are on the lighter or thinner side, try filling them in with a powder or pencil that’s a complementary shade to your hair color. For blondes, that’s usually a taupe color; for darker hair, it’s usually a light or dark brunette shade. You'll be surprised at what a world of different this quick trick makes—especially in photos!

Wing Woman

Leave your basic pencils in the classroom and try out liquid eyeliner to liven up your look. Liquid liners or brushes dipped in gel liner glide on much smoother than the kind you have to sharpen, and the result is more pronounced. If you usually stop your line at the end of your eye, tip the liner upward and extend it out into a slight wingtip—this shape is extra flirty and only takes a minute to complete.

I know that I've written this as a 'back to school' special, however these rules can apply to anyone who'd like to change their looks without forking out mega bucks in the process.

I love the idea of coloured mascara, and can't wait to buy a purple mascara.  It means that I can accentuateeyes and that is always great in my books.

Plus lipgloss/stains are such an EASY way to change your look.  If you stick to nudes, go for a sexy pop of colour.  I'm going to be trying a lot of orange colours.

Let me know your quick fixes to change your look quickly.

Recipe: Mini Banana Split

Tuesday, 18 September 2012

Morning beauties!

I'm loving the kitchen again lately and decided to share another great little easy recipe that I found on the internet lately.  It is something that anyone can make, even if you are not really great at cooking or baking!

These mini banana splits look soooo delicious!  My family love having desserts, but forking out for cakes and frozen desserts can cost sooo much!  Not only that, but it is definitely not healthy.  These mini banana splits are offering you the best from both worlds, being sweet and delicious but small in calories (only if you eat one or two!).

Follow this easy picture tutorial to make your own:

Using a melon ball scooper, carefully scoop out middle of a banana - avoiding scooping out the sides or bottom.
Spoon in your favourite flavour of ice cream (my favourite is rum and raisin).  Carefully remove the skin of the banana.
Dip the bottom of the banana into melted chocolate and sexy sprinkles!  Haha
Top off with a small squirt of cream on the top and a gorgeous red glazed cherry to finish the look.  Et voila!

I hope you've enjoyed this little recipe and share it with your friends.  It is great for entertaining friends and family but also fab for those naughty moments when you just fancy something sweet.

Chic Easy Hairstyle for Wet Hair

Wednesday, 22 August 2012

In addition to the fact that about a billion stylists have beaten all of us over the heads with the warning that our blow dryers are frying our hair, I'm also just plain lazy with my locks. All that brushing and styling and heating — I'm exhausted just thinking about it. So, when I found some great ideas for how to fashionably style wet hair, I jumped at the opportunity and thought I'd share.

Taking inspiration from Alexander Wang and Chanel runways, these oh-so-simple tutorial will teach you some fashion-forward ways to make wet hair look impossibly chic, saving you time and effort in the a.m. What’s not to love about that?

The Swooping Bun

Modeled after the pearl-bedecked manes seen at Chanel's spring '12 show, this ladylike coiff effortlessly marries sophistication with cutting-edge style.

Add some gel to your hair and create a slightly off center-part using a wide-tooth comb. Since this 'do is all about sculpting, I recommend using a stronger hold gel. I like to use a drugstore brand because cheap gel is always the best kind of gel for styles like this, where you want a more defined look. It stays wet-looking and helps hair maintain texture, so you don't show up to work with your hair looking one way, then have in-between frizz by lunchtime.

Comb back the sides around the ears; hold it parallel to the part, then comb down to the temple and sweep toward the back of the hair around the ear to sculpt the hair into an artistic shape.

Gather hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic.

Run your fingers through the top of your hair — where the comb lines are from earlier — and wiggle them to help define those lines even more.

Loosely twist the hair.

Hook your fingers near the top of the twisted tail and wrap the hair upward.

Continue twisting the hair into a loose figure-eight. It should be a bit droopy and hanging down. Pin in place.

By keeping the comb lines very defined, it ages down the look and roughs it up, keeping it from looking too prissy or matronly. The sculpting combined with the styling gel helps create a defined, dressed-up 'do that's practically a work of art.

And et voila, an easy way to make wet hair look great!  Hope this speeds this up for you in the morning.
