My magical car-filled weekend

Saturday, 29 September 2012

Evening everyone!

What an amazing couple of days I've had!  This is a small travel flog of weekend so far, and what I've been up to.

We left our home at about two o'clock on friday afternoon for Colchester in Essex.  And my husband surprised me with a Range Rover Evoke that he was priviledged enough to use for the weekend.  I LOVE this car!

We were on business and leisure time meeting up with a business associate who really loves automobiles!  It's not my usual kind of weekend, but by George it was like something out of a different world!  So many amazing vehicles.

We were also fortunate enough to be put up in a wonderful hotel by our host.  On friday evening we ate at the hotel called The Milsons, and the food was delicious.  I ate a very kitsch starter of Fabulous 70's Prawn Cocktail, a main of Thai Curry and a side salad and dessert of Cookie Dough with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.  The food tasted so darn good!

After a whole evening of having drinks and chatting away with friends, we went up to our suite in the hotel.  The bed was huge!  I couldn't believe how sumptuous it was.  The bathroom was also really something else.

The huge bed

The flat screen television on top of the mini bar

Strange art work

The beautiful bathroom

So cute and thoughtful

All these goodies were great and smelt even better

I love this idea....need to get this in my bathroom

Messy with our things

Really liked the crystal handles on the cupboards

Leather couch gives the room a slightly more masculine feel

The sink is fab!
My nights sleep wasn't too bad, but I really didn't like their silly pillows.  They were made of feathers and I can't get along with feathers as I prefer foam.  My pillows at home are made of memory foam cut into slices, and it is really comfy!

Then the next morning we had a wonderful continental breakfast, were I had the opportunity of drinking one of the nicest smoothies I have ever had!  You could taste the yoghurt, honey and fruits so distinctly.  I'd highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are down in Colchester.  The gardens are spectacular and everything about the place shouts quirky and sumptuous.

Then on saturday we've been playing with really expensive cars.  Some of the cars we've driven includes:  Aston Martin Vanquish, Ferrari Dino, Ferrari 330GT, Fiat Abarth Ferrari and so much more.  I've had a blast!

The beautiful Aston Martin Vanquish

Fiat Abarth Ferrari :) Cutest and coolest car of the day!

Lamborghini something-or-other, haha.  This car really reminds me strongly of the '80s!

Me in the Ferrari Dino, this car is worth so much money!

Old School!

Car with the most character!  The Ferrari 330GT, the choice car for any gangster.  I love this baby!

A real AC Cobra
Even as a non-car person, I really enjoyed myself.  I loved it when I saw that someone had their own old London bus in full working order.  This has been such a treat and I can't wait to see what else this weekend has to offer.

What have you been up to?

How to: Line your eyes

Friday, 28 September 2012

Hi everyone,

I didn't post anything yesterday to allow everyone to read my post on the bedroom rennovations.  This means that I'll be posting on saturday to make up for the lack of a post.  So keep your eyes peeled.

eyeliner

1 PICK YOUR PENCIL

For day, mechanical pencils (like Clinique Quickliner, £11) or classic wood pencils (like Avon Ultra Luxury Eye Liner, £5) are drier than cream or kohl formulas, so they're less likely to run or fade. (If the tip tugs on your skin, roll it between your fingers to soften it.)

Don't be afraid of colorful pencils: In deep shades like forest green, navy, and plum, they give a playful look. Try Estée Lauder Double Wear Eye Pencil in Black Plum, £14.40.

After dark, get your smolder on with a soft, smudgeable pencil—look for anything labeled creamy or kohl, such as L'Oréal Paris Le Kohl Pencil in Carbon Black, £7.50.

2 DRAW IT ON RIGHT

Does your liner look like it was scribbled on by a toddler? Try this foolproof method:

Steady the elbow of your drawing arm on a counter.

Tilt your chin up so you can see your entire lid. Use your other hand to pull the skin taut at the outer corner.

Place the pencil tip at your innermost lash and draw outward along the lashes in short flicks.

Halfway through the line, angle the pencil to draw with the side of it, which creates a thicker line. A line that's all one width can make eyes look smaller.

Look straight ahead as you finish the line, extending it a smidge past the outer corner. Everyone can get a lift from a slight uptick. Fill in any gaps, then add a superfine line along the outer third of your bottom lashes.

3 LINE YOUR INNTER RIMS

This move creates major sex appeal for a night out. To keep it from fading before your first sip of wine, use a waterproof pencil and sharpen it to a fresh, germ-free point. Caveat: If you have small eyes, dark colors here will make them look even smaller, so instead, try a beige pencil like Three Custom Color Light Clarifier Eye Pencil, £13.50. It creates a wide-eyed effect.

4 LINE YOUR INNTER RIMS

I get why cream and liquid eyeliners are intimidating: They set fast, so it's hard to fix mistakes, and they require (gulp) a brush. But, they deliver deeper, longer-lasting color than pencils, and they're perfect for making a graphic, Sophia Loren—esque sweep. Cream liners like Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in navy blue, £20, go on with a thin brush (try Smashbox Arched Liner Brush, £12.04) and create precise or smoky (if you smudge it) looks. Liquid liners, such as CoverGirl Line Exact, £5, make crisp lines, dry instantly, and don't budge. For either formula, first line your eyes with pencil, then trace over the lines.

5 WHOOPS !

If you make a mistake, dip the corner of a wedge makeup sponge into a dot of moisturizer and dab it along the wonky spot. This works better than eye-makeup remover, which can run and ruin the rest of your liner.

And last of all enjoy playing around with liners!  It is fun to create different looks, whether it be sultry, sexy or just plain beautiful.  I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy every moment of it!

Bedroom Renovations

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

Hi everyone!

Boy, what a day!  I'm really sorry for not managing to post early this morning as per usual, but I've been having real issues trying to upload my pictures of the rennovation of our bedroom.

Finally I've got a decent connection and can add all my little pictures.  So exciting.

So here is where we've got to so far:

Firstly we ripped out the old cupboards firstly, they were horribly old fashioned.  Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the old cupboards, but managed to get pictures of the new wardrobes, which I'll talk about in more detail next week.

We had our ceiling skimmed by a plasterer, and then painted it white with matt emulsion by Dulux.  This brought the old carpet into question, and we ended up ripping that bad boy out.  It was horrible and stained from years of neglect!  So it took quite a few trips to the rubbish tip to get rid of all the underlay, carpet, old wardrobe (mainly chipboard) and all the grippers.  We also removed the skirting boards and in certain areas had to remove the lining paper.

Basically our bedroom has a few walls that aren't extremely level or straight for that matter, and some of the walls aren't beautifully flat and flawless.  This made us decorate all the walls with a double-layer wall paper design.  We initially horizontally papered the walls with a standard 1000 grade lining paper, and then went over this lining with vertical strips of 1400 grade paper which is much thicker.  This gives you a wonderful surface to work on and paint on.

We haven't finished all the wallpaper lining but will endevour to finish that by this or next weekend.  Primarily all the work is undertaken on weekends and the progress is slow.  BUT this past weekend we went to our local timber yard and bought our new skirting boards.  They were much cheaper than the DIY stores like Homebase and B&Q.

My husband took the correct measurements and cut the wood to fit perfectly in the gap.  He then drilled holes in strategic areas and screwed the board to the wall.  In the corners we had to make a slanted cut for the boards to create a corner and it can be pretty tricky.  If you want more info on this just email me or leave a comment.  The drilled holes were then filled in with a generic filler, and sanded down to smoothness once dried.  Then we corked around the upper edge where the skirting meets the wall.  Corking is a white substance that looks like filler or silicone in a bottle, it is purely decorative really and gives the skirting a beautiful look to just finish off the skirtings.

The skirtings were then painted with a wood undercoat, sanded down and glossed with white gloss from Dulux.

SOOO, with all that being said we've still got to do the last bit of lining wall paper, the wall paper for the back "feature" wall, and buy a carpet.  We bought our light fitting from B&Q for approximately £40, and decided that this fitting would be perfect because it doesn't dangle from the ceiling (it is fairly low and we'd hit out head) and it has 12V Halogen bulbs in and this means it is cheaper to run than the normal bulbs.

Join me next week to discuss the next steps and then the fun bit of decoration and furnishings :)

This is what our room looks like at the moment, note we've fitted the new wardrobe (Ikea) and the skirtings.

Here you can see the area where we'd like to make a feature wall.

This shows the area where we've had to create a corner and had to cut the skirtings in a slanted manner.  Also notice the corking at the top of the skirting (meeting the wall).  It ensures that there is no gaps between the skirting and the wall.

Corking up close.  Sorry about the yucky floor :)

This is the PAX wardrobe we chose from IKEA which is 3 metres long and includes glass doors.  More to follow on this shortly.  You can also notice our overloaded pasting table hehe.

This is a look at our very smooth ceiling (which was previously artexed) with our new light fitting.

This is the spiral light fitting that we chose from B&Q for approximately £40.

Just a random shot of the room.

This is the Satinwood Gloss that we used on our skirting boards.

We used this Dulux Undercoat in white (this is oil based).

Haha, sorry that this is upside down but I couldn't get it the right side up.  This is the 1000 grade lining paper that we bought from Wickes for £7.99 for 40m.  Good bargain.

This is the more expensive Red Label 1400 grade lining paper (unsure of price but will let you know soon). This gives a brilliant finish and is great for your paint.

Unfortunately on this spot the plaster had blown, so my husband chipped it off and filled the spot in with Pollyfiller.  I wouldn't recommend this method as the best finish is without a doubt browning and plaster.  He was lazy though :)

We noticed after removing the window dressings that our window wasn't sealed properly and my husband strategically placed foam into the gaps, cut the extra off and filled any holes with browning and plaster.  This made a huge difference and the room is warmer now.

That is an example of the browning he used to fill the gap around the window.

My husband removed the plug socket as it was in the way of the new skirting board.  The old skirting board was slightly shorter.  We'll keep the plug socket off until we've finished the papering.  I'll be showing you how to paper around a plug socket soon.

Sorry that this was such a long post with loads of pictures but I've had to explain everything before continuing on with any more stuff I'm planning on showing you.

DIY'ing overload,
Angelique :D

Hey guys!

My exciting news is that I'm currently going to be doing separate non-beauty posts for the next few months.  I'm not constantly going to be droning on about it, just mentioning the items about once a week or every other week where necessary.

These items include:
a)  A new segment on my blog for home decoration and party tips (the hostess with the most-ess)
b)  And some Halloween looks and ideas

Okay, so if you are not excited that is fair enough - tune out - but if you are as excited as me, PLEASE join in!

I'm already in full planning mode for Halloween, Bonfire Night AND Christmas (sorry it is a dirty word this early on in the year).  BUT planning is crucial and I have sooooo many ideas.  So today I'll be sharing some of my favourite YouTube Guru's that are already showing you how to get that epic costume sorted for the event of Halloween!

Then on Wednesday, I'll be showing you the renovations we are currently undertaking in our bedroom and how far we've managed to get, and I'll also share some up-and-coming DIY projects for the home. I'm super excited for this, because I'll share some very cool tips and tricks to make any projects and decorating you have easier.

Get up and Glow

Morning Beauties!

By far today is definitely one of those days that shows you that summer is well and truly over.  It is dull, grey and super rainy.  We've even had forecasts of flooding in the majority of areas across the UK.

However, with that being said, I'm going to be looking on the bright side and finding ways of staying chipper!  As this week is going to be filled with exciting new posts, which I'll get to tomorrow, I'm looking at something for today that will say:  "HEY, I am still a bit tanned and looking fabulous!"

This weather just makes me want to relax in my bed, snuggled up, and watching reruns of Sex and the City.  How cheesy, right?  But I love watching TV shows, especially ones with fabulous girls in that dress really well.  You'll have to let me know your favourite things to do when it gets rainy.

Ok, so my tan is GONE, I'm pasty and I'd like to claim some semblance of bronze back.  I've found the PERFECT solution!

The MeMeMe Shimmer Stacks are the perfect solution without being expensive!

Three colour options of bronze, pink and gold.

MeMeMe Shimmer Stacks are a beauty bag must. Each compact incorporates five different bronzers so that you can blend just the right shade for you.

Sweep over nose, brow bone and cheeks – all the areas the sun hits first – for a natural, healthy glow.

Visit MeMeMeCosmetics.co.uk as these bricks retail for a very reasonable £7.99 (was £9.99) each.

MeMeMe Cosmetics also have a wide range of other great products at affordable prices.  Their website lists all the retail stores near you that will stock MeMeMe Cosmetics.

I'm going to get the gold and the pink, it will really give me some colour!  I've got to get some faketan as well.  No pastiness here!

Let me know what you think of these babies.  Hope you've had a fantastic weekend filled with fun.

xoxo,
Angelique
