Wedding Week: Bridal Nails

Friday, 22 June 2012

Firstly, sorry for the lateness of this post.  I've been having trouble fitting blogging in today.

But here I am, and here is my post:

Your nails are a VERY important part of your 'big' day, Many people forget their nails are going to be on constant display....... i.e When people ask to see your ring or when you have pictures taken signing the register and cutting the cake. This is why your nails need to be PERFECT, look natural and of course be strong enough to last through your honeymoon....Whether thats lying on a beach in the Maldives or white water rafting.

And with Nail Art being one of the biggest trends to hit us in this past year, it is imperative that you choose the right design for you.  Whether you choose the classic french manicure or something more exciting is of course your own choice, but please remember to get your little talons bridal ready.

Here are some really amazing looks to choose from:

One thing is true though, whatever you choose will look absolutely beautiful.  I personally had a french manicure (as my nails were short) with CND Shellac Gel Nail Polish.  It was brilliant and lasted until well after my honeymoon, so I had no problems with looking lush.

If you need anymore inspiration for your wedding, it is also worth having a look at Pinterest, and especially my Pinterest account which you can follow by pressing the button on the side here ------------------>

I hope with my last post on weddings that you will enjoy your planning process, being a bride-to-be and then eventually a bride, and also the 'BIG' day.  It is such a special and wonderful process and day, that tends to be over far too quickly.

With lots of love and cherished thoughts on your special time,

xoxo

Wedding Week: Top 10 Bridal Beauty Looks

Thursday, 21 June 2012

No wedding would be complete without the obligatory 'beautiful bride'.  This means a whole package of dress, shoes, hair and makeup, which really makes me want to talk more about makeup!

Many brides decide early on in the planning process whether they prefer to do their own makeup or have a professional makeup artist do the work for them.  It is easy to get wrapped up in all the other things that accompany a wedding, but the makeup really does make as big a difference as the dress, shoes or any other part of the bridal look.

Makeup frames the face and enhances the natural beauty of the bride.  So think really carefully about the look that you want to go for.  Here I've compiled a list of the best celeb beauty looks as inspiration for your makeup look:-

Be a laidback bride

Amy Adams worked a soft and romantic updo with a side-swept fringe for an oh-so-pretty look. The hair is understated and super-versatile – dressing up a simple dress and drawing back from overly embellished designs. The Enchanted star dazzled in honeyglazed tones of peach and apricot, with slightly bronzed cheeks for a sunkissed, totally flawless look.

Wedding Week: The perfect wedding hair to match your gown

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

Picture this. You're at a wedding and the blushing bride comes waltzing down the aisle wearing a gorgeous princess gown, flawless makeup and ... flat, limp hair. Can it GET more boring than that?

OK, maybe. That is pretty dang dull. I totally know what you were thinking as she passed you. "I would NEVER attend my own wedding with that kind of formal hairstyle. Gross!" So instead, you imagine yourself wearing a sleek, fancy chignon with a loose, flowy dress. That's muuuch better, right?

Sorry to break it to ya, but that's just as bad as doing nothing to your hair at all. Just because your hair is pretty and your dress is pretty doesn't mean they go well together. Certain hairstyles were practically made for a wedding dress, while others shout, "Look at me, I've got no sense of style!" Like wearing a denim jacket with jeans. So 1990's. And since mistakes like this can ruin your entire wedding, you'll want to find the absolute perfect hairstyle for the dress you'll be wearing.

Guess what? I've already asked my hairstylist Becky from the Saks Hair and Beauty in Leamington Spa what that might look like for various wedding dress types. If you're smart, you'll take a look at these hairstyles even before you start shopping for your dress. You're bound to find the perfect wedding hairstyle from one of these celebs, including Kate Bosworth, Debra Messing, Thandie Newton, Lauren Conrad, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and Rachel Weisz.

Oh, and listen when all of your friends say the hairstyle you love doesn't go with your gown. You don't want to be that girl who looks back at her pictures and wonders, "What was I thinking?!"

The Classic Gown

A classic wedding gown is perfect for a bride who wants to look traditional and elegant as she walks down the aisle. It's simple, with clean lines and not too much embroidery or embellishment. The necklines for this style typically follow the collarbone or show a bit more skin on top (think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, so gorgeous). Becky says a bride who selects this dress type should wear her hair up and off of her face in a "classic way," like sweeping it into a simple bun or timeless French twist. She also recommends adding a hair accessory to your style to up the simplicity of the dress type. Just be sure to get opinions from your friends on whether an accessory looks good on you before deciding to wear it on your big day.

The Classic Gown: A sleek bun

Kate Bosworth's high, sleek bun lets your glowing face take center stage. "A bride has to remember that pictures start as soon as she gets ready and continue till the last dance and that there will be lots of hugs and touching," Becky says. Bosworth's style is polished and ladylike, and will stay in place flawlessly throughout the day and night -- perfect for pictures. If your dress doesn't have any crazy bling on it, try adding a jeweled clip to the side of the bun, or slip on a sparkly headband.

The Classic Gown: A French twist

Debra Messing's French twist will make you look elegant and royal out on the dance floor. Adding a bit of texture to the top of her hair and keeping the rest off of your neck also keeps it a bit modern. Just keep in mind: if your dress has a lot of sparkles or lace, go easy on the jewelery -- opt for simple diamond studs to keep the look classic and timeless.

The Romantic Gown

The romantic wedding gown is Shakespeare in dress form. It usually has flowy flourishes (like soft, billowing fabrics) and plenty of embellishment (like tulle and ruffles). The necklines, which usually include the strapless or scoop neck, tend to show some skin. So this dress is not for the faint of heart, as it will garner all the attention. That's why Becky suggests keeping your hair simple. "The idea is to look dreamy, with hair loose or to choose a style that is soft and sweet," she advises. "Too much hairstyling can quickly take away from your dress," and if you've chosen a dress like this, you definitely don't want that to happen.

Romantic Gown: Flowy curls

Thandie Newton's messy curls are perfect for a romantic wedding dress, because they fall above the neckline and show off her pretty collarbone and bare shoulders. They're effortlessly gorgeous, and they draw your eyes straight to her bust line and dress. Becky says the most important thing is to be comfortable on your big day, and what's more comfy than choosing a style like this that you've probably worn many times before? The other great thing about choosing a style you wear often is that you can totally do it yourself! No more spending money on an expensive stylist.

Romantic Gown: Low side ponytail

Lauren Conrad's low side ponytail has "princess" written all over it. It's perfect for a bride who wants plenty of sugary-sweet romance on her big day, and fits the vibe of the romantic wedding dress perfectly. It's an easy style that will keep eyes below your neckline and draw immediate attention to the dress. If your hair is too short, try adding a ponytail extention.

The Modern Gown

A modern wedding dress is perfect for the chic, city gal who loves random, asymmetrical lines. They tend to have strong, plunging necklines or high necklines with lots of detail. The best hairstyles to wear with these dresses are ones that look simple, "even though they may NOT be, they are so clean that it at least appears that way," Becky says. This allows the bride to play with different style eras and even mix them up, like coupling a retro hairstyle with a trendy gown. The best thing about a modern gown is that you can break all the rules and even create your own. Just don't turn all Bridezilla on us, you hear?

The Modern Gown: A slicked-back hairstyle

Kim Kardashian's long, slick hairstyle is elegant and stylish, especially when paired with a graphic or complicated neckline. If your gown has tons of jewels or embroidery near the neckline, Becky says it's best to wear your hair off your face, to avoid distracting from the dress' detail. Keep your look modern by mixing old with new -- Kardashian's hair looks simply pinned half-up from the front point of view, but when you look at her hair from the side, you see a bundle of gorgeous, tousled hair.

The Modern Gown: A retro bouffant

Jessica Simpson's retro-inspired bouffant takes it from 60's to today when it's coupled with a modern dress with a detailed neckline. Adding height to your hair is important -- it lengthens your neck, elongates your body and makes sure your head doesn't get totally swallowed by the dress. And because teasing your hair means TONS of hairspray, Becky suggests you have your maid of honor carry around a little "emergency" kit that includes a travel-sized bottle of hairspray and lots of bobby pins.

The Bohemian Casual Gown

Want the perfect beachside wedding? You've got to wear a flowy, ethereal gown with soft lines and sweet details. With the casual dress, you can usually wear flip flops (awesome, right?) and soft, natural-looking hair. The different variations for these hippy-like dresses include spaghetti straps with an empire waist or a slim-fitting silhouette with a loose v-neck. Becky says light, pretty waves or loose updos are the perfect laidback look to match the feel of this type of gown.

The Bohemian Casual Gown: Tousled waves

Nicole Richie's long, tousled waves are so bohemian-chic, and they look relaxed and gorgeous with a deep v-neck dress. Becky says hair that looks "earthy" and free-flowing like Richie's is perfect for a bride who wants to look natural on her wedding day.

The Bohemian Casual Gown: A faux bob

Rachel Weisz's messy faux bob is so carefree and fun, perfect if you want to casually show off your shoulders. It's so sexy and refreshing to see loose layers that fall just below the chin, and this also draws attention first to your collarbones and then down to your dress. Try parting your hair to the side for a flirty vibe, or down the middle if you want to keep it casual. You can also pair this look with a sparkly necklace to make your casual gown a bit more elegant.

And that is really the low-down on choosing the two most important elements of your big day.  Make sure that your gown and hair match and that it also ties in with your theme.  For example, you can't go 'retro' when you have a 'modern' gown...it would look slightly out of place.

Hope that you found this guide helpful ;-)

Wedding Week: Themes

Tuesday, 19 June 2012

Good morning beauties,

I'm so excited for todays post!  I love being creative and the process of choosing my theme for my wedding was a thrilling one.  This is the time for you to get creative, let your mind wander to endless amazing ideas!

You have to remember when picking any theme that is will affect the colour of your flowers, bridesmaids dresses, grooms waistcoat/cravat and your invitations.  So choose a colour that you really like and if you wanted to you could pick a few colours.  On my wedding I chose a very rich deep purple and accented it with silver, pearl white and soft pink to break up the darker colour.

Here are some mood boards and ideas to inspire you:

Cool Summer

Pop of Pink

Burgandy Star

Butterfly Garden

Great western

Glamour Puss

Tango Mango

Purple Reign

Snow White

Chic Monochrome

Winter Wonderland

Just remember that you need to put your personalities into the theme, but the sky really is the limit when it comes to picking a theme.  It is a great idea to sit down together with your fiance and create a mood board of things that you like.

Use various tools that are available on the internet, there are many great sites available.  Here are a few of my top picks:

Confetti
You & Your Wedding
Brides Magazine
Wedding Magazine
Wedding Planner
OhsoCherished

I hope you've enjoyed looking at some themes, and I hope you enjoy choosing your own theme with your husband-to-be.

Wedding Week: The first steps

Monday, 18 June 2012

Good morning lovely ladies, (and gents)

This morning, I've got some great news.  This blog is going to have a wedding theme for this one week, where I'll be giving my tips on themes, things to organise and all the beauty and style tips that you will ever need for your big day.

Firstly though, if you are recently engaged or have been engaged for a while, congratulations!  I hope that you will enjoy the entire wonderful process of getting married.  It is a whirlwind, but so satisfying and beautiful towards the end.  It is tremendously rewarding to see all your hard work pay off.

You're probably wondering what qualifies me  to even write about weddings?  I organized my entire wedding on my own, and it was an extravaganza with nearly 130 guests that needed to be catered for.  So I've for all my expertise that I can share and help you with.  So I urge you if you have any questions, feedback or even tips of your own, to please share it with all those beautiful brides out there! :-)

Your first port of call is setting yourselves a budget.  This is very important and will be the deciding factor on the size of the wedding.  Then move on to the venue!  Here are my tips -

How to choose a venue:
1.  Do you plan to marry in a church or registry office, and then move somewhere else for the reception?  Or do you prefer the convenience of having the wedding ceremony and reception all under one roof?  Factors such as ease of transport from service to reception will be important when planning your church wedding.
2. Make a list of all possibilities, and then call them to check the availability on the day you and your beloved have decided to wed. This will narrow down your search, as venues tend to book up quickly and some may not even be available on your desired date.  It’s a good idea to reserve your venue from six months to a year before your actual wedding. If you have your heart set on a particular venue, you may have to be flexible about the date.

3. Put together a tentative guest list of family and friends you think will be at the wedding.  Then, look only for venues that can accommodate that number of guest. If you plan on inviting the whole town, you’ll need a large hall that fits all those hundreds of people. If you plan on having a smaller affair, you can choose something more cozy.  Find out when the venue of choice needs to have a head count.
4. Discuss your wedding budget with your spouse-to-be, and decide how much money you can devote to the wedding venue. Some venues charges a flat fee, while others charge per hour. Some provide special packages that you may be able to work into your budget. You should also find out whether they offer discounts on certain days, like a Thursday or Sunday. Once you decide on a venue, make sure to find out when deposits and payments are due.
5. Ask the wedding venue director what items are included in the price. Some venues offer tables, linens, chairs, and even decorations, while other venues offer only the space that you will need to fill. Be sure to find out if a set-up or clean-up fee is included in the price, and how much time before and after the wedding will be needed to do so.
6. Find out whether the venue offers only in-house catering or if they allow outside caterers.  If you and your fiance have dietary needs, or have your hearts set on a particular menu, this will play a part in your decision.  If the catering is in-house, inquire whether it is also included in the price.
7. Do you want to be married outdoors? Look for a place that will host an outdoors wedding ceremony and/or reception, but make sure they have a provisional space in case of bad weather, too. Also, find out if the venue offers changing rooms for the bridal party and groomsmen.
8. If you and your spouse-to-be plan on serving alcohol, discuss any rules or restrictions they may have. Some venues allow you to bring in your own liquor, while others make you use their own in-house bar and bartender.
9. Bands and other forms entertainment can take up a large amount of space, as can a dance floor, so decide when and where you want the entertainment to take place, and check that there will be enough space available.
10. Parking may be a consideration for your guests. Some venues offer valet parking (which you can choose to cover) while others offer adequate-sized parking lots for all of your guests.

Types of Venues:

Your perfect wedding can take place just about anywhere you want it to, but here are some of the most popular choices.
  • Historic wedding reception venue.
  • Hotel wedding reception.
  • Marquee wedding reception.
  • Sports or social club wedding reception.
  • Restaurant or pub wedding reception.

Things to watch out for!
Wedding prices. Don’t fall for over-inflated prices. Whether it’s sky-high drinks or hidden costs in the small print, you don’t want to feel exploited, so vote with your feet if you feel it’s not worth it.
Wedding venue staff. Do they seem experienced and professional? Are they flexible and willing to adapt to your needs? This will be a major factor in how smoothly your day runs.
Wedding venue facilities. Is the venue accessible for guests with a disability? Is there appropriate seating for the elderly and/or young children?
Wedding guest accommodation. Is there a reasonable range of accommodation (hotels, guest houses, etc) within easy access of the venue?
Wedding transport. Is there enough parking for guests who drive, and decent transport links for those who don’t?
Wedding venue restrictions. Does the venue impose limitations that could put a damper on your celebration? Some stipulate no loud music after a certain time, others don’t like confetti or candles, and certain (usually historical) venues forbid high-heeled shoes for fear of their flooring being damaged.
Wedding photography. Plenty of natural light in your venue will mean better pictures. You might also want to check that there are plenty of appealing outdoor spots close at hand.
Wedding decoration. Are table linen, flowers, place cards and other decorations included in the quoted price, or will you have to provide your own?
Wedding extras. Check the availability of extras such as a cake stand and cake knife. Many wedding venues will lend you these, but having to hire them separately adds to your hassle and your wedding expenses.

Choose wisely, and you could make the day even more special.  Make it your own, and put your own touch on the venue.  I'd like to say sorry for the text-heaviness of this post.  Tomorrow I'll be discussing themes, and that will be showing more pictures :)

xoxo,
Angelique

My little sewing project

Monday, 13 June 2011

Hi girls :)

Sorry for not blogging for a while, but things have been very busy lately...I'm looking for a job and also went for a wonderful makeover and photoshoot last thursday.

Basically my friend was selected to have a free makeover and photoshoot with Double Take Studios in Birmingham.  You are pampered from the start with a mini facial, hand massage, make-up session and they also do your hair.  You then have to bring with three outfits for the photoshoot on their various sets.

It is the most fun I've had, but I must admit the posing was difficult.  I couldn't afford to buy any of the photo's because they were very expensive, however some of the photo's did come out wonderfully!  It's the best I have EVER looked ;)

Here is just one of the pictures I took of myself in the changing rooms!

Other than that, I've also been working on some DIY hearts for my wedding!  I'm not brilliant at sewing but I don't think these have come out too bad.

Have any of you girls ever been for a makeover and photoshoot?  If you have how have you found it?
Do any of you have fun hobbies?

Have a wonderful day
