Official Fashion Colour of the Spring: Radiant Orchid

Wednesday, 29 January 2014

Good evening lovelies!

Tonight brings a slightly later post then normal, but it has been a busy few days. I'm officially over January and all the blues it brings. Actually, stuff it, I'm over Winter!

I'm incredibly excited for the Spring/Summer season 2014 and can't wait for an updated wardrobe! It is my favourite time of year with the warmer weather and fun times to be had.

A new season means new 'it' colours, and this year the spring/summer season means that Radiant Orchid is that cool colour that everyone is going to want to be seen in.  This past Winter season it was 'Ox Blood'.

From left to right: READY eye shadow in The Dream Sequence, £29, bareMinerals;  Krista dress, £139, Hobbs London;  Stila lip balm in Gemma, £16, Space NK;  Nails Inc nail polish in Devonshire Row, £11, ASOS;  Aspinal leather iPad case, £125, Selfridges;  Low heels, £35, ASOS

This colour is basically a fuschia purple colour, but hot damn I love it!  It is about time that purple made big a splash on the catwalks and beauty counters!  I'll certainly be getting myself the nail polish and lippy!

I think it is a universally flattering colour on various skin tones, but would look especially amazing against African-American skin tones!  It is like a deeply coloured gem almost. Just stunning.

Will you be wearing this colour?

Cream of the Crop

The crop top used to be a somewhat scandalous item of clothing, associated with Madonna's '80s gear, and later, Britney Spears' (cough, slutty) schoolgirl outfits. It was something only fashion risk takers would dare to wear in real life.

But today's crop of crop tops are almost sophisticated ... and they're popping up on nearly everyone in Hollywood.

Take Diane Kruger for instance -- an actress so chic she has even earned high praise from Karl Lagerfeld himself. Recently, she was spotted in a sweet, tailored crop top with a red leather high-waisted pencil skirt. The definition of daytime elegance.

Then there's Miley Cyrus, who's pretty much adopted a crop-top only uniform to flaunt her fab figure. Miley's take on the crop top is a little more hipster and youthful -- perfect for bopping around downtown and looking cool at concerts.

And then there's Jennifer Lopez. No stranger to all kinds of ab-flaunting styles, Jennifer has been a fan of the crop top since her Fly Girl days on "In Living Color." Yet even at 40-something, she can still pull off the look in a way that doesn't make her look like a mom who's trying too hard.

As these stars prove, anyone can wear crop tops -- no matter your style or body type. Not convinced? Keep reading to find a crop top you're going to want to buy.

Nasty Gal Caged in Crop Top, £25.10

With its scoop neck, leotard-esque long sleeves, and slimming black color, this pick is a little ballerina chic. But turn around and ... bam! There's an edgy geometric-cut-out. Since the front is subtle, pair this with high-waisted short shorts to show off more skin below the hips.

Boohoo Nicole Crop Top, £6

Spring fashion trends are all about neutrals, and this crop top is the perfect dusty rose shade. Even better, it stops at the naturally thinnest part of the body, right above the waist. Style it with some loose, high-waisted floral shorts and you'll be ready to frolic fashionably.

Shop it: Nicole Top

Minkpink Ooh La La Crop Top, £26

Ooh la la, indeed. Channel your inner French fashionista with black and white stripes and a crop that's bare-shoulder saucy. Pair with a sheer chiffon fishtail skirt to give the petite Parisian stripes a lighter springtime feel.

Shop it: Ooh La La Crop Top

Apliiq The Snakin Crop Top Tee, £24

This unique number is seriously sustainable. It'll arrive in a re-usable bag made from waste fabrics, and that wild triangle detailing is faux snakeskin. Since this crop top has that cool, downtown vibe, wear it with simple black skinny jeans.

Nasty Gal Summer Lace Crop Tank in Mint, £25.10

You had us at "mint," Nasty Gal. The fresh hue, flowy fit, and tiny lace detailing make this one a fave. The color looks amazing with light-wash jorts (jean shorts) and because it's longer than your average crop top, you have more leeway with how you style it.

Shop it: Summer Lace Crop Tank in Mint

Free People Scallop Edge Lace Crop in Black, £38

The sweetheart neckline, capped sleeves, and scalloped edges make this crop top like a grown-up version of a princess ruched style. Since the cut hits a little high, style with either a high-waisted pencil skirt or even a maxi skirt to keep your look sophisticated.

Lashes of London Crop Top with Textured Sequin Back Detail, £60

OK, at £60, this one is the cream of the crop (heh). The swirling matte and iridescent sequin pattern gives a subtle (but eye-catching) sparkle, which ups your glam factor. Style with a metallic ballerina skirt or some high-waisted black satin shorts.

Time to invest in some key pieces of 'crop'!  These babies will make you feel like the summer is already here!

Have an amazing evening!
