Nails Inc Concrete

Tuesday, 4 June 2013

Good morning girlies!

I'm loving the new nail trends that are constantly being updated at the moment.  It is so much fun to find new glitter nail polishes, velvet nails and all these crazy things the nail guru's are thinking of.

No nail polish brand has been so much at the forefront of "new" ideas as Nails Inc.  They are constantly updating their colour pallette's and coming up with completely unique and fashionable ideas to make your nails look ah-mazing!

As soon as I saw one of their products called 'Concrete Nails' I had to blog about it!

From left to right:  Momentum, Stonehenge, Marble Arch, London Wall.

The nail varnish applies and dries with a grainy, bumpy texture.

Despite what you may think the colour distributes evenly and applies like any other varnish, just when it dries it gives the feeling of Concrete.

The nail colours are bold and bright - perfect for the Spring/Summer and the nude/grey shade is perfect for right now.

I thought these varnishes would be similar to glitter ones - ie. an absolute nightmare to get off, but I was pleasantly surprised and it came off as easy as a normal colour would.
A simple nail art design that quick and easy to do.

Use yours in a more interesting way and paint only one finger, tips or a moon shape for something more adventurous.
The only downside really is you'll want to stroke your fingers all day.

You can get your mitts on these polishes at Boots, Nails Inc Online and QVC to name but a few.

They retail at £12 per bottle.

Hope you enjoy checking these out :-)

Monster Mash: Halloween Nail Art

Thursday, 18 October 2012

Good morning ladies!

I'm so sorry for not blogging yesterday but I was so ill, I didn't do anything yesterday.  But I'm feel much better today and have decided to get typing!

Happy Halloween! I don't know about you, but once the calendar hits October 1st, I'm in full Halloween mode. (OK, real talk: I start planning next year's costume on November 1st.) It's time to break out the candy, start watching "The Shining" on repeat, and decorate my fingertips with the most amazing Halloween nail art.

This year nail art designs are all about classic scary monsters, like Frankenstein (or Frankenstein's monster for all you purists), skeletons, mummies, vampires, and ghosts. And whether you decide to go with a subtle hint of spooky or an intricate full-blown portrait of horror, there's a nail design right here for you.

Of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without some gore, and I've got the blood spatter to gross out even the most ardent horror movie fan. But I've also got you covered if you're going for cute with a design of one of Halloween's favorite candies.

The great thing about Halloween nail art is that you can wear it (and switch it up) for an entire month, unlike your costume, which is only good for one day. To make the most out of these designs, you better get started -- Halloween will be here before you know it.

Faux Claws

"Sexy" cats, Freddy Kruger, and Lady Gaga are just a few Halloween costumes that require claws. But before you file your nails into sharp little daggers, try this nail polish trick instead. First, paint your nails with a nude nail polish. Once dry, place two pieces of tape diagonally on the tips of your nails to create a pointy template. Fill in with a gray or black polish. Once the dark polish is completely dry, remove the tape. Instant claws!

Bloody Nails

If Andy Warhol was a manicurist something tells me he would've invented these pop art-inspired nails. After all, these blobs of blood and freaky eyeball/vampire teeth are all about fun. To get this look, use a nail art striper brush, £1.77, to create the thin, detailed lines of the accent nail. And to create the big blob shape, try a nail art dotting tool, £1.95, then spread the polish with the striper brush.

Green Monsters

Frankenstein is one of Halloween's most iconic monsters -- and you can celebrate this green guy with some nail art. Either keep it subtle with a simple stitch (use a striper brush) or go all out with an entire portrait. The main thing is to pick the right shade of green.

Rattling Bones

Usually we hide our skeletons in the closet, but not with this mani. You'll definitely need a striper tool to get these fine lines, or you can use a toothpick if you don't have a brush handy. Keep in mind that it's always easier to paint over white polish than black polish. If you want to paint over the black polish, it'll take at least three good coats of the other color.

Candy Corn Obsessed

Candy corn definitely takes the crown for the sweet with the most Halloween spirit. Transfer the fun to your nails with this playful mani. And no need to be a perfectionist; since candy corn never has perfect stripes, feel free to freehand the three basic colors.

Blood Splatter

For a more realistic blood bath -- albeit nail art style -- try one of these manis. Both of these looks require white and red polishes. To get the splat effect, put a drop of red polish on your nail and use a toothpick to spread out the blood. For the bloodier nails, choose a darker red (more life-like) and dip a toothpick into the color then drag it across the nail.

Creepy, Crawly Things

This mani isn't for the arachnophobes out there. To get started, paint the base of your nail mint green. Then, like the claw mani, use tape to create a template for the top of the point, and fill in the tip with black nail polish. Finally, use a striper brush to create the spider.

Say Boo

Ghosts can be friendly (like Casper) or scary (like every other ghost in history), and with these two manicures you can decide which take you want on your nails. For a friendlier vibe, use a hot pink polish to create smiley mouths on all your ghosts. If you want to go the scary route, stick to the plain black and white -- with a twist. Use a glow-in-the-dark nail polish, like Sephora by OPI in Full Moon, £9.50, to paint the ghosts. Now, everyone can see them no matter how dark it gets ...

Day of the Dead

These sugar skulls are traditionally used for the Mexican celebration, the Day of the Dead. And even though it sounds scary, this holiday is about honoring friends and family who have died. But it doesn't change the fact that skulls are pretty creepy ... no matter how many flowers adorn their eye sockets. This nail art design is for a more advanced artist (you'll definitely need a striper brush and a dotting tool) and you can check out the step-by-step tutorial here. For beginners, we say go with Day of the Dead nail decals, £3.50, and save yourself the hassle.

Mum's the Word

This is one mummy that won't require a hundred rolls of toilet paper. To get these friendly-ish creatures all you need is black nail polish, white nail polish, a toothpick (or striper brush), and a dotting tool. Dip the toothpick in white nail polish and drag it back and forth across your nails to create the mummy's gauze. Draw another line near the tip of the nail in black polish. Then use the dotting tool to create your mummy's eyes. Spooky, yet cute at the same time.

I'm loving these designs and if you have any designs that you can share, please do!  I love Halloween time and the chillier winter weather creeping in.

Have a wonderful day,
Angelique

Revlon Nails Tutorial

Monday, 20 August 2012

Good day all you gorgeous people!

I've got a great little post lined up for today.  I haven't prepared this tutorial myself, but rather found it on the Revlon Facebook page.  I thought that I'd share it with my viewers, especially for those who haven't ever seen this tutorial previously.

This is a great show of this seasons biggest nail trends and Revlon seem to be hitting all the right trends with their wonderful nail polish collections.  This particular trend combines metallics and glitter, two of my favourite things!

So I take no credit for this tutorial, it is not my nails and the whole tutorial can be found on the Revlon Facebook page. I've taken the time to find all the necessary products on the Boots.com website so that you can buy any products that you like.   But for those that haven't seen it yet....here it is:

1. Start with your basecoat – this will help the nail enamel adhere to the nail better, making it last longer!

2. Apply two coats of Gold Coin, allowing the first coat to dry before applying the second.

3. Start by painting 1 coat of Radiant at the base of your nail near the cuticle. Only paint about a third of the way up the nail.

Wipe off the brush slightly and ‘drag’ some of the Radiant polish upwards to create a faded effect.

4. Now add a final coat. Focus around the cuticle – to keep this layer intense, ‘dot’ colour on rather than dragging it with the brush.

5. Finally 'float' your topcoat!

The Final Product

I hope you've enjoyed a look into this tutorial, and please link in any pictures if you've given this a try!

xoxo,
Angelique
