Nail Polish Favourites

Thursday, 30 May 2013

Good morning all!

I'm an absolute nail polish junkie!  It's a fact that I can't walk past Boots or a nail polish stand without inspecting or buying a colour or two.  I'd literally try anything - I'm not pretending like I'm very good, but I'm up for anything new and different.

So here are some picks of favourite nail polishes:

There's no guarantee that the sky will remain this shade of azure blue over the summer, but you can ensure a bright day with a slick of this colour-popping polish
POP Beauty nail polish in Pacific Hoot, £13 (part of a set of three), exclusive at ASOS.com

If you're a die-hard red polish kind of gal, opt for a warmer shade for the summer months - I love this tomato-y hue

Pastel shades made for the prettiest fingernails - and what's more, this Models Own polish is scented with a fruity fragrance

Nails were pale and interesting on the runways at Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone and Stella McCartney - get the look with celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann's white polish

Forget nail art; the hottest trend in nails right now is feather-effect polish

Not only is Illamasqua's UV polish very pretty...

...it also glows in the dark! Too cool.

Ciate's super-fun Caviar Manicure will make your nails look like they're covered in hundreds and thousands - sweet!

Coral is a summer nail colour classic and looks particularly great against a tan - this new shade from M&S is the perfect hue
Limited Edition nail polish in Bright Coral, £3.50, Marks & Spencer

Add a slick of neon polish to your nails for an instant on-trend update
Models Own nail polish in Pink Punch, £5, Boots and modelsownit.com

Orange is having a moment right now, and a zesty nail varnish is the easiest way into the trend
NARS nail polish in Madness, £14.50, ASOS.com

High-shine metallics are big news this season thanks to the likes of Burberry Prorsum and Jonathan Saunders
Summer Party In A Bottle 3D glitter polish in Grosvenor Gardens, £11, Nails Inc

So these picks should take you through colder weather AND those lovely summer months when highly polished nails will make ALL the difference.

Hope you enjoy and see a couple that takes your fancy.

Pastels at your fingertips

Thursday, 5 July 2012

I just love the SS12 trend of pastels and the easiest way to achieve the look is by painting your nails a lovely pastel shade.

With all the major nail polish companies, like OPI, Marvala, Chanel and Butter London jumping on the bandwagon to create lush colour choices, there is literally no excuse not to try it.

My favourite colours this season will without a doubt include oranges, corals and mints.

What do you think?

What’s inside the fash-packs handbags?

Thursday, 3 May 2012

There has been lots of buzz in the past few days about a new exhibition by German artist Hans-Peter Feldmann at the Serpentine gallery, Hyde Park, which reveals the contents of six women's handbags laid out in traditional museum vitrines.

The result sees cases full of painkillers, mobile phones, business cards, crumpled receipts, sanitary products, make-up and various other items.

I thought it might be interesting to find post over the internet showing women in the fashion industry's handbags and the contents of said handbags.  To see exactly what 'essential' items they carry around with them every day.  Here is what I uncovered...

Holly Dudley, eCommerce content manager at L.K.Bennett

Handbag essentials:

L.K.Bennett pink Suki flats
'I'm a heels girl at heart, but sometimes when you're rushing between meetings having a pair of flats to throw on is a godsend!'

Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche sheer moist mist
'Perfect when I need a little pick-me-up, this is my signature scent.'

Filofax
'My friends laugh at me for still using pen and paper, especially as I work in a digital industry, but I can't get by without my diary.'

Donna Ida, CEO

Handbag essentials:

Lipgloss
'I have lipgloss and lip balm everywhere, in my car, on my desk, in my bag.  I have tens of them and always top up.'

Nail files
'I like really short red nails so keep my nails filed down constantly.'

Business cards
'You never know who you might bump into, always be prepared - I have business cards in every single handbag, including evening bags.'

Nikki Gatenby, managing director of Propellernet

Handbag essentials:

CD's
'I love music, and although I always have my iPod with me, I keep a couple of CDs in bag too - I like to have something fun to listen to when I'm in the car.'

Vaseline Rose lip balm
'This is one of my beauty essentials and I don't leave the house without it.'

Two phones!
'I really need both of these phones - my Blackberry is ued purely for work and my iPhone in the one I catch up with friends and family on.'

Dearne Sutherland, digital marketing executive at Westfield London and fashion blogger

'I love having a sneaky peak at what other women carry around in their bags.  I guess it's the whole curiosity factor, and whenever I see a woman carrying an extremely large bag I always think 'what on earth do you have in there?!'

Handbag essentials:

Mulberry pouch To keep my bag tidy (for painkillers, hayfever tablets, and pens).

Chanel sunglasses

MAC lip gloss.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And that concludes looking into other ladies in fashions' handbags!  I'm loving all the items they keep in there, and find that it is very similar to the contents of my own handbag!  It must mean I'm fairly normal then.
Hope you've enjoyed this rather different post.
Keep well,
I'm a BAD gal with sexy lashes!
Wednesday, 18 January 2012
One of the things I can't live without has to be mascara!  I'm addicted to the amazing depth it gives to the eyes, as well as the amazing curl and length it gives your lashes!
So it was a huge surprise to receive Benefit's BADgal lash in my christmas stocking!  I haven't been digging my MaxFactor False Lash Effect Mascara since buying it.  I found that it didn't seperate lashes as well as a cheaper brand mascara that I fell in love with.
Benefit Says:
"Sexy, sultry, pure unadulterated black mascara for full, voluminous lashes. It's as BAD as you want to be!  Famously big, bodacious brush coats lashes with our super black formula."
My Opinion:
I really love the fatter brush on this particular mascara.  However it can sometimes be tricky when trying to coat those finer inner lashes.  The inky colour of the formula is amazingly pigmented and truly gives lashes a very dark coat more so than other brands I've tried.  Application is very easy and quick, the formula is long lasting and doesn't cause any cast off during the day.  I'd definitely give this mascara a big fat 5 out of 5 stars!
A look at the fatter brush compared to other brands.
Just an update on my competition:  I've bought some of the little prizes and they are awesome!  I'm really excited, please look back towards the end of this month for all the details of the competition and the terms and conditions of entering the competition!
Lancome and Benefit are my favourite mascaras of the moment!  Have you got an ultimate favourite mascara?  Which one is it, and what do you like about it?
Till next time
My 17 splurge...
Thursday, 27 October 2011
On tuesday I went shopping for a few little bits and pieces of new cosmetics in Boots.  I browsed all the shelves and wasn't really sure of exactly what would float my boat.  It had to be pieces that I could use daily...but I also felt like getting something a bit special.  Difficult combo!
Now it is no secret that I've fell in love with Chanel's amazing Autumn/Winter make-up range, especially peridot nail polish and the amazing Illusion D'Ombre Luminous Eyeshadows.  But the price tag is seriously putting me off.
THEN, I remembered a DUPE for Chanel Peridot....Boots 17 Fast Finish Nail Polish in the colour Fury.
17's Fury vs Chanel's Peridot
The amazing colour of 'Fury' on my nails
Isn't it an amazing dupe?? I'm totally in love with this shade and can't wait to wear it out.  I've found that you definitely need two coats for a true opaque colouring and you also need a good topcoat.  It is a snip at £2.99.
THEN I spotted my second exciting product:
17's Wild Metallics Eyes in the shade Wild Nude
This reminded me of Chanel's Illusion D'Ombre and is also a close dupe.  The shadow has an amazing texture and the colour is fabulous! The texture is creamy but also slightly like a mousse.  It has a soft metallic colour with a sprinkle of fine glitter.  They have six shades (silver, purple, wild nude, mid blue, green and bronze) and is priced at £3.99.
The great thing about Boots (excluding the fact that you get points AND a £5.00 off No. 7 voucher if you spend over £5.00)  is the fact that they are currently running a promotion when you buy any two 17 products, you receive a great little gift called 'Femme Noir'.
This includes:
1)  17 Ultimate Volume Lipgloss in Very Berry
2)  17 Glitter Eyeshadow in Night Sky
3)  17 Liquid Liner in Black
4)  A 100 points voucher if you spend £5.00 on 17 before 29 November 2011
The amazing little gift you get with 17
Have you got any dupe products?  What do you think of the 17 brand?
